L4D2 is simple to make. Add a handful of new zombies, a few new weapons, put out a new engine for the director AI that they had already made by the time L4D1 released.
Portal, on the other hand, has to be innovative, and fresh. It just can’t rehash the same physics puzzles as before, otherwise it will get uniformly panned by critics and fans. I’d rather they take their sweet time and make it another innovative and fun game rather than just crank out several more levels of the same style.
so they make a l4d 2 like less than a year after the first 1 and wait 3 years to make a portal 2…
